Brand placement

Brand placement inside the story.

We write your brand into a South African vertical drama series, make it, release it to our audience and measure what it moved. Be the story, not the ad they skip.

What you buy

A finished show, the media behind it, and the measurement underneath it.

The show

A vertical drama series in local languages, written around your brief and produced by Buka.

The release

We release it on our own channels, our release partner network and our own watch site.

The measurement

Completion, drop-off and recall from the platforms it runs on, reported back to you.

Ways in

From a title card to a whole series.

A title card

A card on every episode that says who brought the series to viewers.

In the scene

Your product in shot, and in a character's hands.

Your space

A scene set in your store, your branch or your product's world.

Your customer

A character built to match the people you sell to.

A series built around you

Your world becomes the reason the story exists. Your product is not in the scene; it is how the hero wins.

The audience

Who watches, and how far.

6.3Mviews of After the Bell on TikTok and Facebook
4.60Mviews of Mountain of Graves on TikTok and Facebook
70.9%of viewers who start episode 1 of Mountain of Graves on our site finish it
96.4%of viewers who start episode 10 on our site finish it
94.5%of visits to our watch site counted as engaged
98.5%of watch site visitors were in South Africa

The episode 10 figure counts only the viewers who got that far. Soweto and Benoni each sent more visitors to our watch site than Sandton.

The recall test

One advert. +43.9 points of aided brand recall.

We invented a detergent brand, Khanya, and made a 15-second advert for it. It ran as the gate on our own watch site: viewers who met it at the episode 4 unlock of Mountain of Graves watched it once, to keep going. Only viewers who watched the whole advert were asked.

At episode 10 we asked those viewers which brand they had seen, from four options. Two of the four were also invented, so we could measure how often people simply guess.

55.0%picked Khanya
11.1%picked an invented decoy, the guessing rate
+43.9points of aided brand recall: correct answers minus guessing

What it does and does not show

It measured an advert on our site, not a brand written into the story. Khanya started from zero, so every point came from those 15 seconds, and a brand people already know has less room to move. With 131 answers, treat the number as a direction rather than a guarantee. Writing your brand into the story is what we sell, and we measure it the same way.

How a campaign runs

Four steps. You sign off twice.

  1. Brief

You tell us the message, product or perception you need to land. Our writers take it from there.

  2. Story and scripts

We develop the story arc and write your message into it. It ends with your approval of the final scripts.

  3. Production

We handle casting through to editing. It ends with your approval of the final edit.

  4. Release and insights

We release the series, then report completion, drop-off and recall from the platforms it runs on.
